As a citizen of this country and world, I believe that it is unlawful, and dangerous to take away the jobs of several thousand local farmers because of "food safety standards."
As a customer of local foods, I understand that I take responsibility for any food I buy, and trust my local farmers to provide healthy foods, devoid of unhealthy chemical practice. I trust that their purpose is promoting human health and also supporting their families with their time-consuming, physically straining jobs.
Furthermore, I hope to trust that you, the lawmaker, the politician, the lobbyist, the government, will not allow these bills to pass, and for large chemical companies, including, Monsanto, Cargill, Tyson’s, ADM and more, to further monopolize our world food market, that disintegrates not only the quality of our food, but our soil (erosion, destroying underground biodiversity), underground water (which affects our aquifers, and reduces the little freshwater we have already). We as a community deem that the practices of Monsanto, Cargill, Tyson, ADM to be what you call unsafe food safety standards, and are the REAL target for renovation, reorganization, restoration.

this is a time of change for me, whether i like it or not.
being a senior in highschool, i begin to see the small things changing:
this silent disconnecting parcep* that we all fall victim to
we take our slow steps backwards from this circle of acquaintances
but it's not necessarily bad, and i know i'll stay close to those who i care about, just not as close physically. i know that our interests will expand, and as long as we continue pursuing our own goals, we will be drawn away from the subjects and interests that brought us together in the first place, and develop our own lives; our own thoughts and niches.
for now im having great fun with my friends, and im enjoying the others too; the ones who im friends with mostly inside school.
on another note: valentines day is coming soon and i gotta gets the day ready. three years with my best friend and partner, it's pretty epic.
your ally,
hugh
*parcep is a word i just made up to mean "fate"
parcae means the fates, and parcel(le) means 'a part of' in old french

I noticed that as soon as I started imitating the whole underscore name thingy that e.e. cummings did (which now they say he didn't actually ever underscore his name...), every goddamn company started doing the whole "underscore thingy."
examples here:

well, theres more...
memorex, sisco, wnyc, flickr (well, flickr has always been underscore)...
but I'm too lazy.
they're great, and I love them, but they make me feel so unoriginal.
I guess copying the idea from a poet doesn't really make me original either.
bah. ;D
in any way, I've created a new website for my portfolio and pickin's
and yes it's in an underscore format.
www.hughsato.com
that's all for updates.

I feel this year will be a year of a lot of changes.
It's not just Obama's election into the office, but within the American culture itself: businesses failing, and companies laying of thousands of people, American health issues, environmental awareness rising, job lean changing: more depression and less money equals less artistic jobs, and less artists in this next generation (it's been shown across history).
Not only this culture, but all cultures of the entire world are going to have to start looking to support the ever-changing enigma of human survival. Humans aren't worried about our survival as much –the concern has shifted more toward the environment, and animals. But of course our survival isn't completely off the list: overnourishment, and undernourishment.
Overnourishment is the second most preventable death next to tobbacco.
Somewhere I read that higher IQ as a child makes for a higher percentage to become vegetarian. I don't know if that's neccessarily true, but I do think we need to get smarter about the things we eat. I'm not becoming vegetarian, but I am way more concious about my meat, where it comes from, what it is fed, and how it is treated.
What does "Organic" mean anymore?
It seems like a label we place on anything that's following loose guidelines. We're constantly being told to go organic, but I feel that we're not exactly providing enough reason for middle-class citizens to go buy more expensive food that seems to taste the same to most Americans. After a couple of years of being "Organic," I can tell you that organic lettuce and other vegetables actually taste either sweet, or more bitter (and I've learned to love it) but tell an average person who goes to McDonalds for a bag of crap, and KFC's for a bucket of slosh every now and then –and they'll tell you it lacks flavour.
But we're seeing a lot of change here. People are actually starting to get it. Why they need to change, and why they need to stay that way is becoming more apparant to people.
2009 already eh?
It's time to graduate, for me.
In this year, I'll be a freshman in college, and a senior in highschool.
This is one of the biggest changes in my life that cycles in my brain, and I wonder how it's going to be.
Perpetual adaptation.
Environmental stress & excitement.
I guess I'll see.

we all think differently, and work differently
so why do we try and find creativity in only the most
structured of environments?
like writing: we have grammar, diction, syntax, what have you
to define the styles we can write,
but it is still a structure, that people can
say
you suck
you dont suck
you're okay
or whatever, because of your writing style?
i think that's the line where the form of communication gets
interesting.
what makes one writing different to another
doesn't have to be structured,
can be
written just for the writer, and for no one else
but when others read it
it will be read differently,
defined differently,
accepted differently,
'n stuff.

busy busy busy
for the last two months i've been busy with my school company (drama club).
taken over by a new director, mr. winkler, the name is now "the young company."
we just finished the newest production crazyface.
it has really been a fantastic ride, and i've seen all facets of my emotions change as we progressed through this production. needless to say, i had no idea what i was getting into when i first auditioned, but i'm sure glad i did.
i played the character of mengo, a priest of the dark arts. he is a torturer and loves the idea of murder, though he utterly fearful of his own death. he spends his last month? year? of his life torturing lenny eulenspiegel, brother of tyl eulenspiegel, who is crazyface. mengo sends lenny after breaking every bit of his dignity and consciousness, to find and kill crazyface who has stumbled on the greatest secret of the universe.
well, thats the jist, but there's a lot more to crazyface than meets the eye (of course, being the lead) and i think the play will keep people talking about it for a good amount of time. (hopefully)
with the play being over, i finally got some 'me' time and spent time raking the leaves and piling the leaves on top of the plants for the winter. by doing this, the leaves prevent the snow from completely setting frost on the plants, and also weighing down the leaves to turn into a good aerated topsoil when spring comes.
the topsoil is the most important, because over the warmer seasons, the nutrients from the topsoil trickle down as the rain percolates into the soil –which is why you apply fertilizer on the topsoil, and it's better to use solid nutrient feeders (99% of the time).
well, seeing as i won't be living here next year, i suppose it doesn't matter, but hopefully the garden will be pretty enough for the house to sell.
i'm going to miss the play, but there are more important matters approaching, like college application deadlines. bleh.
well, on with it i go.
